Revival: Live in Dallas
Recorded live in Dallas. Home of “Promises,” their first No. 1 on Billboard and Mediabase Gospel Airplay.
Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers
For five decades, one family has carried one of Gospel music’s most distinctive legacies.
Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers blend the foundation of traditional quartet with soul, contemporary Gospel, church-rooted musicianship and powerhouse vocals. What began as a family ministry in Memphis has grown into an award-winning legacy that keeps reaching new generations, still rooted in the sound that made The Brown Singers who they are.
It started with Willie Mae Richmond Brown.
She founded The Brown Singers on family, faith, harmony and the unmistakable energy of traditional Gospel quartet. Lisa joined the family group as a child and grew into its lead voice and creative force.
Her commanding vocals, passionate delivery and musicianship bridged generations, and carried the group into a new era without abandoning the sound and spirit it was built on.
The first national milestone.
Experience the Evolution: Live in Memphis introduced a wider audience to the group’s evolving sound, and to the energetic, church-centered approach that became synonymous with Lisa Knowles and The Brown Singers.
Then The Evolution Continues.
The album reached No. 6 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart. Its fan favorite “God Do It” won significant Gospel radio support, entering the Mediabase Top 30 and the BDS Top 40.
It proved traditional quartet music could evolve sonically and keep its identity, and it laid the groundwork for an extraordinary awards run.
Three Stellar nominations. Two Stellar Awards.
Lisa was nominated as Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year, and the group for Traditional Group/Duo of the Year and Quartet of the Year. They walked away with Traditional Group/Duo of the Year and Quartet of the Year, firmly establishing the group among Gospel music’s nationally recognized artists.
Then a new chapter for Lisa.
That success made Lisa an entrepreneur and independent music executive. She founded EvoWorld Entertainment, Inc. to keep ownership, develop artists, produce music and keep expanding the Brown Singers legacy.
In 2016 came Evolution: The Legacy, a thirteen-song project produced by Lisa and released through EvoWorld, with “Be Alright,” “Right on Time,” “He’ll Be,” “I Know It Was Jesus,” “Turn It Around” and a new presentation of the Brown Singers classic “Work on Me.”
Live in Memphis 2 brought them back to the Stellar stage.
A sixteen-song live project that reintroduced the signature sound to a new generation. At the 39th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards they won two more: Traditional Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and Quartet of the Year, and performed on the nationally televised Pre-Show broadcast.
Then came a season that would redefine their career.
Revival: Live in Dallas captured the raw energy, musicianship, testimony and church experience that have defined the Brown Singers for generations. At its center was the biggest radio record of their career: “Promises”.
In February 2026, “Promises” reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Gospel Airplay and Mediabase Gospel Airplay charts, the group’s first No. 1 radio single, and made them the first all-female Gospel quartet to top both. It later climbed to No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart.
A historic night. Five Stellar Awards.
Lisa Knowles-Smith was the night’s leading winner. The group took Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and Quartet of the Year for Revival: Live in Dallas. Lisa received the Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year award, and Producer of the Year, shared with Frederick Perry.
“Promises (Live),” written by Lisa under her given name, Alescia Knowles-Smith, earned Song of the Year. That brought the career total to nine Stellar wins from eleven nominations, across more than a decade and several eras of their recording career.
And their first GMA Dove Award nominations.
“Promises” for Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, and Revival: Live in Dallas for Traditional Gospel Album of the Year, carrying the group’s reach across the broader Christian and Gospel music community.
The story has always been generational.
Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, cousins and family members who believed Gospel music was more than entertainment. It was ministry.
That legacy became even more meaningful after the passing of Lisa’s mother and longtime Brown Singers member, Vanessa Yvette Brown Knowles, whose voice, influence, faith and presence remain woven into the group’s story.
Legacy and evolution, side by side.
They have kept the authenticity of Gospel quartet while refusing to let tradition become limitation: the hand claps, harmonies, testimony, soul and church foundation of generations before them, reaching today’s audiences through contemporary production, live performance, radio, streaming and social media.
From Experience the Evolution, The Evolution Continues, Evolution: The Legacy and Live in Memphis 2 to the groundbreaking Revival: Live in Dallas, each recording is another chapter in a story that keeps evolving without losing its foundation.
In 2026, fifty years in: a No. 1 Billboard Gospel Airplay record, a No. 1 Mediabase record, a Top 5 Hot Gospel Songs hit, five Stellars in one year, nine in all, and two first-ever Dove nominations. Not the end of the story. Evidence that faithfulness, longevity, ownership, family and evolution can coexist.
Fifty years in, the story has always been generational.
Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, cousins. A family ministry from Memphis that grew into the most decorated all-female quartet in Stellar Awards history.
